2018 Best Sarasota FL- Buffalo NY Fee Only Financial Advisors

If you have questions such as:

What can I expect if I sit down to meet with a financial advisor?

Most importantly, how much would I be paying for this advice and is it worth it?

If you don’t have the time or interest to manage investments, you need a financial advisor.

A financial advisor can help with investments, insurance, estate planning, budgeting, retirement planning, saving for college, tax planning/prep, and other money topics.

Financial Advisors are people that basically build, manage, or advise on your portfolio. They have institutional knowledge on how/where to invest, given your goals, since they do it on a daily basis.

They may know how to deal with many different assets: stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, insurances (home/health/life), REITs, options, futures, LEAPS, etc.

There is risk in everything you do, which is why what they propose is generally according to the risk-level you want to assume.

What Financial Advisors do for you?

Financial Advisors gather information and financial statements and put the information into software that projects the results far into the future. These projections are used by the financial advisor to answer questions such as:

  • How much should I be saving?
  • What investments are best suited to provide the income I need?
  • How can I protect my savings against a bad market?
  • Should I use my extra money to pay off the mortgage, or put more into my 401k plan?
  • How much income will I have in retirement?
  • Should I keep the life insurance policy I’ve had for thirty years?
  • How will inflation affect my retirement lifestyle?
  • What should I be doing with my money so it can take care of me one day?

Some of these questions are not so easily answered. Looking thirty years into the future can be a rather daunting exercise. The key is to accept that we are working with a lot of moving parts. You have to play with the parts that move and create “what if” scenarios. These scenarios help you see what your finances will look like five, ten, or twenty years into the future.

What’s advice worth in dollars?

Since all advisors are not created equal, let me emphatically recommend that you make sure you’re working with what’s known as a fiduciary advisor.

You want a financial advisor who is working only for you as your advocate.

In other words, he’s not also getting paid by a brokerage firm or insurance company to sell their products.

You pay an independent advisor directly. Ask him right up front to put it in writing that he and his firm adhere to the fiduciary standard. If he cannot agree to accept fiduciary responsibility, then it’s likely he’s working as a salesman for someone else.

You may  be able to pay an advisor or planner by the hour, by the task or on a retainer basis.

Maybe you just want a one-time retirement analysis to give you some peace of mind that you won’t run out of money if you stop working.

A fiduciary advisor will provide the plan and be fully transparent.

He will want you to understand all fees and expenses because you’re working together and are on the same side of the table.

By understanding the advice you really want, it will be easier for you to see what kind of financial expert you have and can decide how much the service is worth to you and whether you have the right professional.
